Serious concerns about upgrading to 4.0D

I am in a position with several of my servers to consider major upgrades
to 4.0D. However, from what I have been following on this discussion
group, it seems that if you want to use the ADVFS or qpopper (e-mail pop
server) you may run into major problems.

I currently have two three machines running 3.2D-2, and I am not
experiencing a lot of problems. However, I try to keep my software at a
reasonable state to effectively utilize some of the new features.. not
necessarily all of them. I noted recently problems with ADVFS when
upgrading to 4.0D with systems which already use ADVFS, and I also recall
reading about "perfect compile", but no running success with qpopper when
using 4.0D.

Why is this happening? What has caused all of these problems relative to
the 4.0D upgrade and/or new install? Can they be easily fixed by the user
on-site, or should one wait until DEC produces the proper patches?

Somewhat fearful of making the 4.0D jump??

Thanks for any assistance this group might provide.
