Hi everybody:
My original question was: On an Alphastation 255/233 (DU4.0a) only root
can login locally, users cannot. Remote login no problem for anybody.
Reason?
I receive three responses, thanks to
Natalia Salzberg <natalia_at_stn-atlas.com.au>
Mike Metelski <mmetelski_at_dttus.com>
"Dr. Tom Blinn, 603-884-0646" <tpb_at_zk3.dec.com>
Natalia and Mike both suggested to > check in /etc/securettys, this file
indicates the allowed methods of getting in to the system.
Tom suspected there was a problem with my license:

As it turns out the problem was with my /dev/null. World and Group did
not have w permission. Thanks to David from DEC hotline who found the
error after telneting to my station.
