The main suggestion was that I use the "write" command which is well
documented in the man pages, but what I think I will use is the echo
command. An example by H. Blakely Williford is as follows:
# echo "Hello there" > /dev/ttyxx # where ## is there number of the
users tty
I had no idea that echo would work like that, but it makes sense.
