here is a bothersome problem. our alpha station 500/4.0b system has
a problem with the osf-usr pak. here is what lmf list and w says:

now, lmf thinks that there are 2 active users, w thinks there are three,
but the system will not allow anyone else to log in (with this familiar
message):

Too many users logged on already.
