We have two unix boxes.
We are doing a remsh command on MACHINE-A. MACHINE-A does a remsh on
MACHINE-B. That part works fine.
Now we want the shell executing on MACHINE-B to run in the background. We
have setup SHELL-1 on MACHINE-B to call SHELL-2 on MACHINE-B with an
ampersand so it will run in the background.
This works if we run the shells from MACHINE-B, BUT when we call the
shells remotely from MACHINE-A, the shell runs but not in the background.
How can you remotely (remsh) start a process in the background.
The idea is to initiate the lengthy process on the remote machine and
immediately return to the originating machine.

Thanx for your help
