SUMMARY: Does upgrading CPU require kernel rebuild?

My original question:

I am going to replace the CPU card in my AlphaServer 1000 from a 4/233 to
a 5/300. Does anyone know if this will require that I rebuild the kernel
on the system (DU 4.0D)? Or if there is any other software which might
need to be rebuilt?

Thanks...

Thanks to those who responded. I received responses from:

Richard L Jackson Jr <rjackson_at_portal.gmu.edu>
Joseph Thvedt <JTHVEDT_at_larsondoors.com>
Jim R Jones <Jim_R_Jones_at_notesbridge.cummins.com>

"H. Scherrer" <hs_at_idefix.mpipks-dresden.mpg.de>

The general feeling was "most likely". I will go ahead a boot with the
generic kernel and do a rebuild. Richard Jackson also suggested I might
need to upgrade the firmware. DEC lists different images on their website
for the EV4 and EV5 cpu cards, so there might be a difference...
