     Dear All

With yet more apologies for my rather over-enthusiastic summarising
last time - here is a useful subsequent comment from Peter Stern:

     Dear Nick:

Since I have now received this message thrice, I feel that a comment
is permitted me. The changes you suggest force every user to set up
his profile correctly. If you make it a default profile, it doesn't
take into account the fact that different users may login from
different places with different keyboards. If the user himself uses
different "keyboards" at different times, the profile has to reflect
     this.

A simpler approach seems to simply put the line:
     -pn -xkbmap digital_uk_pcxal
     into the file: /usr/lib/X11/Xserver.conf
This then solves the problem for everybody painlessly.
Read the file: /usr/lib/X11/xkb/keymaps.dir for more details.

     Regards,
     Peter Stern

     Thanks again

     Nick
