These messages ended up being caused by a Windows 95 X Window client.
Thanks to someone...unfortunately, I deleted the only response.

I have found in my /var/adm/syslog.dated/ files these strange messages:
Apr 1 08:58:49 hsd vmunix: xdr_opaque: decode FAILED
Apr 1 08:58:49 hsd vmunix: rfs_dispatch: dispatch error, no reply
Apr 1 08:58:57 hsd vmunix: xdr_opaque: decode FAILED
Apr 1 08:58:57 hsd vmunix: rfs_dispatch: dispatch error, no reply
Apr 1 09:00:41 hsd vmunix: xdr_opaque: decode FAILED
Apr 1 09:00:41 hsd vmunix: rfs_dispatch: dispatch error, no reply
They appear to happen early or late in the business day, and not at all off hours. I have checked DSN link (which
seems to get more useless for Digital Unix articles by the day) and found nothing. Does anyone know what they
mean? I am running Digital Unix 3.2G on an Alpha 2100.
I'll summarize.
Thanks
Paul
