| Dear Jon,
|
| Here's an extract from message about that very thing:

This program works well at converting the document to plain text, part of
it (elser) will also break password protection!

|Source: CTAN/support/catdoc/{catdoc.[c1],README.catdoc,wordview}
|Config: Uncommented #define LATIN1 in catdoc.c
| $ make catdoc
| A lot of warnings about incompatible signed and unsigned char
| referenced type of the pointers. Ignored.
| wordview requires Tcl/Tk version 7.6 or higher
|
|If you don't expect word-processing, this might already help in some
|cases.

This program also works well at converting to plain text, includes a text
file viewer, which while fast isn't particularly clever at formating...

Thanks again for the replies...
