CD-R drives

Jerome Michael Solberg <jerome_at_eratosthenes.me.berkeley.edu> recently
asked about attaching Jaz, Zip, and Syquest drives to DU boxen, which
got me thinking: has anyone gotten CD-R devices to work directly with DU
machines? Using what software?
