Hi Everyone,

I had asked if anyone was familiar with the Sendmail course offered by
Harker Systems and if it was worthwhile. I received a handful of responses
that I've summarized below.

Most of the people who wrote said that anyone with a reasonable background
in UNIX should be able to go through O'Reilly's "Sendmail" book and learn
just as much. Others pointed me to various conferences at which tutorial
sessions are offered. The one that looks the most promising is the USENIX
Technical Conference that will be running from June 15-19 in New Orleans,
LA. Eric Allman (author of Sendmail) will be conducting a one day course
there. (http://www.usenix.org/events/no98/)

Another conference that was mentioned was the System Administrators
Conference,LISA (also part of USENIX) taking place this December in Boston,
MA (http://www.usenix.org/events/lisa98). It too has several very
worthwhile tutorials and technical seminars.

Someone else pointed out that even if you learn all about Sendmail
rule-sets in a course, the frequency with which you actually have to adjust
them is often so low that you'll have to review everything each time
anyway. This is worth remembering when cost is an issue.

Lastly, only one person had experience with Harker Systems. Their
impression was that the course was very thorough and that the firm is
reputable. (http://www.harker.com). Their web page also includes some
useful Sendmail tips and links to other Sendmail related sites.
