Well problem solved thanks to

and

Who provided the answer that worked for me
If the host and IP address appears in the server's /etc/hosts file, and
the hosts= line in /etc/svc.conf is set to "local, bind", then it looks
things up in the /etc/hosts file before going to DNS - and takes the
first string after the matching IP address. So, if the line is
123.45.67.8 foo foo.bar.com
Then only "foo" would get logged. You can change this by changing
svc.conf to have "hosts=bind,local".
Thanks. Now I have to see what the issues are with changing that in an ASE
envrioment. Any ideas?
Joe

I have a odd question....
What would cause a Digital UNIX machine not to return it FQDM back to a
httpd server?
hostname is set to xxx.cos.com but it only returns xxx in access logs from
httpd.
I'm just a bit confused on this one. None of our other DU machine show
this behavior.
TIA,
Joe
