M4 Problem with integer containing 0 at the end

I'm using M4 to generate sendmail config, and went to this M4 problem. When
using for example the following command:

define(`confMAX_MESSAGE_SIZE', `50000000')dnl

The message size stays undefined in the resulting config. This is not a
problem with this option as we can replace the last zero with a one and it
works. But changing file protection from 0600 to 0601 is not realy what I
want.

So is there a fix to that problem? Someone was sugesting to use GNU M4. Is
there any consequences to other DU components? What is your experience?
