I am trying to dump a ufs filesystem on a DEC Alpha 3000/700 running 4.0b to a
remote machine (SGI Origin 200, IRIX 6.4) and I am not having any luck. Here is
what happens:
rdump 0unf cobalt:/dev/exabyten /dev/rz3c
rdump: Dumping from host sawtooth.idbsu.edu
rdump: Date of this level 0 dump: Fri May 8 19:17:07 1998 MDT
rdump: Date of last level 0 dump: the start of the epoch
rdump: Dumping /dev/rrz3c (/users/staff) to /dev/exabyten on host cobalt
rdump: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
rdump: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten, retrying...
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten, retrying...
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten, retrying...
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten, retrying...
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten, retrying...
rdump: Cannot open remote device file /dev/exabyten
rdump: NEEDS ATTENTION: Do you want to retry the open?: ("yes" or "no") no
rdump: SIGTERM received
rdump: The ENTIRE dump is aborted
rdump: SIGTERM received
rdump: The ENTIRE dump is aborted
The rdump works fine from this machine to a tape drive on a Decstation
Ultrix4.3 machine and all the Ultrix filesystems dump to the SGI without a
problem. I think I have checked the obvious (permissions, rmt location), but I
am now stuck. Also, I have tried --> cat file | rsh cobalt dd of=/dev/exabyten
obs=60k and this works fine. I have tried all sorts of different dump flags,
too. Any advise? Thanks in advance for any help.
