I started having a communication problem with an APC UPS 1000 with Powerchute
Plus 4.2.2 for Unix working on my Alpha 255/233 with Digital Unix (OSF/1) v
3.2. I had similar problems during installation, but then they went away. They
suddenly began again a few days ago.
I have a twin Alpha 255/233 which never gave any problem and always worked
perfectly.
The problem is that the UPS control daemon starts at boot, but soon looses the
communication over the serial line with the UPS :
100000 02/10/98 10:57:07 *** PowerChute PLUS Version 4.2.2 Started ***
300000 02/10/98 10:57:08 Unable to communicate with UPS
I have checked that the communication on the cable is OK, as suggested
in an APC document, issuing command
./upsoff /dev/ttyxx AAA
for both ports tty00 and tty01 the Smart UPS beeps and its LEDs flash,
so communication along the cable IS possible with this command !
However it looks like that more complex communication fails, as indicated by
the daemon itself, or issuing command
upswrite /dev/ttyxx verify
I have checked that this command returns $status = -1 which should not be.
Any ideas ?
Should it be a cable, UPS, or tty port problem ?
Should I call in DEC to check the ports ?
