          this message indicates a NFS client tried to use NFS
          locking for file access and it hasn't been enabled on
          your system, or the lock-manager is no longer registered
          with the portmapper (you can check for the lock-manager
          using the command "#rpcinfo -p <SystemName>|grep lock".
          You can enable NFS locking by setting the NFSLOCKING
          variabel to "1" in /etc/rc.config (either use nfssetup or
          "#rcmgr set NFSLOCKING 1" .

Yes, that did take care of it. There were no statd nor lockd
processes running. After doing the rcmgr, started them by
hand, and the portmapper showed them after that.

Didn't find the source file, we don't appear to have them.

As an aside, it's a bit difficult to debug rc.config when the
relevant items aren't in there. Being relatively new to DEC,
I didn't even know about nfssetup.

Oh, and the other sys admin just showed me that there is, in fact,
a networking manual. (Thanks, guy!)

Thanks,
Michael
