Thanks to Hans for the speedy reply which said :

This line (and similar ones) is probably the cause for your
problem. A MX RR needs a domain name, not an IP address as
argument.
Since 195.10.96.231 seems to be the Address of busch.mcb.net.,
and you have already an MX RR pointing to this domain, you can drop
this line.

Exactly so.  Host files corrected by removing similar lines and now no
warnings.  Presumably 4.9.3 wasnt as good at notiofying you about such
errors.
