SUMMARY: Multiple root accounts.

Wow, overwhelming response which consisted of pretty much the same
answers.

#1 Let me give a little background to 'something bad happening' which
prompted this message. I had an administrative type doing user
administration that inadvertantly changed the root passwd. Fortunately I
was logged in elsewhere as root to be able to change it back.

#2 A few people mentioned su and how it works, but I was terribly clear on
my situation and it really wasn't what I meant in my question.

#3 Most everyone else mentioned sudo. I saw someone say you can fire up a
root shell from sudo, which would take care of my problem, so I will need
to look closer at this.

Thanks for the time.

Sincerely,
