Lost Console

Greetings and Salutations!

We have an Alphastation 255/233 running Digital Unix 4.0 which when we
shutdown (or use the hardware reset) results in a simple blue screen
with the cursor blinking in the upper-left-hand corner. At the same
time we get no apparent response from the keyboard. After a while
(probably because we have auto-action set to boot) the machine comes
back into multi-user mode. There are no console messages displayed
on the screen while it does so.

Does anyone know what is going wrong and how to fix it (we cannot
access either single-user mode or the SRM while it is acting like
this). I will summarise any replies to the list.

Thankyou,

Ian.
