Tape error or tape drive error?

Hello Digital Unix World!

Last night while doing a vrestore of our system disk I got the following...

|cam_logger: CAM_ERROR packet
|cam_logger: bus 0 target 3 lun 0
|ctape_iodone
|Hare Error Detected
|DEC TLZ09 (c)DEC TLZ09
|Active CCB at time of error
|CCB request completed with an error
|Error, exception, or abnormal condition
|MEDIUM ERROR - Nonrecoverable medium error
|vrestore: unable to read from device </dev/rmt0h>; [5] I/O error
|vrestore: do you want to retry?

After trying 3 back-up tapes, tape number 3 completed the vrestore. This was
after I did a power cycle on the drive.

Dose this sound like a H/W or tape issue? My current guess is that our backup
tapes are erroring out. The operators that run the vdump jobs at night are
telling me that the back up jobs are finishing with out any problems. If it
is the tapes is there a way to check the dumps to make sure they are good
before we need them?

Thank you for your time.
