Just a little update. I just received a very informative email from
"Kristin (Kris) Larsen" <klarsen_at_enterprise.afit.af.mil> regarding my
original post of who or what generated a 'LOGIN' user entry in the login
history.

This is a wonderful thing for the admin to use. I had an error in
my prpasswd file for root and I could not log on to CDE as root, so
I used the Command line login option to login as root, update the
prpasswd then logout. At that point I could login as root using
CDE. Apparently the last does not log all info to wtmp or utmp so
that it shows the user as LOGIN instead. Remember this, it could
be useful to you as it was to me.
