$)CHello, managers:
Since we get our 4100 box, we are having intermitant problem
with the tar command for >2GB files. We are running factory
installed 4.0d , with patch kit 1 applied (all of them including
patch 5 for tar).
At one point I thought the flaky behavior may be due to the
firmware on the tape drives. However, the following disk-to-disk
tar operation indicates the problem is entirely Digital Unix
related.
# ls -l O*

I have reported the problem to the support line. In the mean
time, I would ask the following questions:
1. Has any one else had the similar problem before and knows how
to fix the problem.
2. On another 4100 running 4.0b, I was able to tar and untar the
same dataset to both disk and tape. Someone suggested me to go
back to 4.0b on the new boxes. Is there any risk in going
backwards? Should this be a full install or setld will do? If it
can be done through setld, which filesets need be replaced? (I do
have the Base OS cd and Associated product cd).
Thanks in advance for your helpful comments.
