Hiya All,
I'm running an alphaserver 8200, DU4.0D, patch kit 6, enhanced security.
For security reasons we have many different groups on our system and
users cannot access any files unless they are a member of the group
which the file belongs to, e.g.
We have a group called 'fd'. We create a subdirectory on one of our
filesystems also with the name fd. We set the owner to root, the group
to fd and remove all permissions for others on the directory. This
prevents anybody not in the fd group from ever getting past the fd
subdirectory. However, there are times of course when one of our groups
would like to read files belonging to one of our other groups. Rather
than having myself move the files between the groups or granting group
permissions to users from other groups, is there a way that I can grant
a user access to another groups files. I know users can use 'setacl' to
grant access to other users or groups for individual files, but this
doesn't help as the users from the other group have not got permissions
to go beyond the fd subdirectory. Has anybody had any similar problems.
All help greatly accepted.
Cheers,
Sean
