Hi all,

In first must thank the following people for their replies:
Arrigo Triulzi <arrigo_at_albourne.com>
John Pelan <johnp_at_am.qub.ac.uk>

In my original poster I commented that our Generic Network Queueing System
(GNQS) immediately stopped working on workstations who's operating system
had been patch. I have *not* resolved the problem but Arrigo Triulzi
suggest the following:

Just a quick thought: could it be that you have installed the patches
against the various "new" network attacks which were published on
BUGTRAQ? In this case you probably have the novelty of SYN-cookies and
cryptographically generated timestamps along with protection from
smurf & other attacks (packets to broadcast & network addresses). I
think that the "quick drop" that you are seeing might be related to
one of the possible defences which was discussed at length on
BUGTRAQ. Have you tried GNQS on the latest Linux stable kernel?
(2.0.34pre16 by Alan Cox) It has similar protections and might give
some insight (since you have source code to the TCP/IP stack).

If the above is true, how do I work around the problem.

Could anybody suggest how I should contact at DEC since clearly the patch
has affected our systems.

Regards,
Rich
