The original posting follows the solution.
To fix the problem do the following.

Just edit /etc/auth/system/ttys and /etc/auth/system/devassign creating
lines appropriated to your microcomputer emulating X terminal. Something
like

machine\:0|machine\:0.0:t_devname=machine\:0:t_uid=user:t_logtime#841060342:\
        :t_unsuctime#839963102:t_xdisplay:t_login_timeout#0:chkent:

and

machine\:0:v_devs=machine\:0:v_type=xdisplay:chkent:

respectively, where "machine" is your microcomputer name defined in the
DNS server.

Thank you very much to Oyanarte Portilho for this solution.
Thanks also to the following who also replied with similar suggestions.

Just as an addition, fixing this problem unearthed another which was, after
logging in, I got the message

Cannot start session manager from remote client -- access denied

The solution to this was provided by Hummingbird here in Oz, the solution is to
make sure the following things are setup in the Xconfig section of Exceed.

Communication - set the startup mode to XDMCP-broadcast
Security - check the Allow Clients To Modify Host Access Control List
Protocol - check the DECwindows Compatibility

Thanks again to everyone for their help, this list is certainly an excellent
resource.

I found this question in the archives in 1997, but no summary.
We are running Exceed on NT4.0, and I am trying to login to our DU3.2g
machine which runs C2 security, using xdmcp. When I start it up, it comes up
with the Digital logo, but instead of giving me the login window, it says

Cannot obtain database information on this terminal

I know this problem is related to the C2 security because when I turn it
off, I get the login window. Unfortunately not running C2 security is not an
option.
Does anyone know how to overcome this problem? Any information would be
greatly appreciated.
