Summary: AUTONICE not working in DU v4.0D

I recieved only 1 reply (attached) on the question.

I have checked the setting of run-time values using "sysconfig -q proc"
which confirm that autonice was set correctly:

autonice = 1
autonice-time = 600
autonice-penalty = 4

However, ps command shows that user process not niced after running for
days, I have concluded that AUTONICE feature is NOT working under DU
v4.0d.

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has AUTONICE working on
their DUv4.0d system.

Thanks to George Guethlein for his reply.

Shiu,
I believe that you can enable this feature by adding the
following subsystem override to "/etc/sysconfigtab" :

proc:
     autonice = 1

This turns the feature on, and affects processes that use over
600 seconds of CPU. (def = 0, off)

Two other related features are :
1.) autonice-penalty - the nice value applied to pocess after
it has exceed "autonice-time" seconds of CPU. (def = 4)
2.) autonice-time - the time in seconds of total CPU that a
process can run before "autonice-penalty" is applied as a
nice value to the process. (def = 600)

I don't **think** you need to rebuild the kernel to invoke the
override. Just boot your system.

I was just looking in the 4.0 sSystem Tuning and
Performance Manual on related features (page B-15).

Hope this info helps.

Original question:
=================
I have enabled the AUTONICE feature to automatically
"nicing" up the priority of long computing jobs on the system
by adding the

options AUTONICE

in /sys/conf/hostname file and rebuild the kernel.

The procedure works on v3.2 to v.4.0B systems and
somehow stops working since the system is upgrade to
v4.0D. ie. non of the user processes are shown niced in the
ps command after hours of computation (even though the
option AUTONICE is enabled in the kernel by the above
procedure).

Anybody noticed the change in behavior? Is this a bug in DU
v4.0D or is there other way to enable the auto "nicing"
feature?

Thanks in advance,
Shiu
