SUMMARY: g77-0.5.22+gcc-2.7.2.3

Sit and wait resolved my problem, a new version came out:
the combination
libstdc++-2.8.1.1 + gcc-2.8.1 + g77-0.5.23
gives a set of g++, gcc, g77 working for DU 4.0D
