I've been asked to wipe an AlphaServer 400 4/166 clean in order to
install NT 4.0 on it (not my idea),
and I'm wondering how I might go about doing this - right now, the
machine is running DEC Unix 3.2c.
Can I boot from one of the DOS floppies which come with the NT
distribution? Tried boot dva0 (or something similar)
and was unsuccessful. Or can I boot from the NT CD-ROM somehow?
Silly questions perhaps, but I'm not sure how to get started with this.
Also - the machine I'm being asked to install NT on doesn't have a video
card - doh! So, before I do anything else,
I need to get a video card. I'm wondering if a video card installed on
an AlphaServer 400 4/233 has a good chance of
being compatible with an AlphaServer 400 4/166. It probably came stock
with the machine.
Or, could anyone recommend a cheap (~VGA quality) video card for an
AlphaServer 400 4/166? I'm assuming I can't swap a PC video card into an
AlphaServer (it would be nice to be wrong about that).
Thanks.
