My origional question was:
I am running 3.2g and LSM. root is on advfs (root_domain). I want to make
a copy of the disk (for emergency purposes, I'm upgrading the machine to
4.0d).
...
How can I make a bootable, identical copy of rz1? Normaly I would simply
disklabel the new disk, create an advfs domain and #root fileset, then vdump
| vrestore.

Thanks to Dr. Ram Rao [ram_at_ini.dec.com] and Rodrigo Poblete
[rpoblete_at_gmd.com.pe]. Rodrigo had the solution that I needed.
The problem with just doing a vdump | vrestore on the filesystems on the
origional drive is that there was a 3k h partition that was of type LSMsimp.
That had the rootdg information on it. Basically, disklabel the new drive
with a 3k h IF you want the rootdg database on the disk. There has to be at
least one disk on the 'puter that has the database and is part of the rootdg
group. Use voldiskadm to add it, then just do a regular vdump | vrestore of
the filesystems on the origional to the new copy.
