I've set up a couple of new Alpha 433 workstations with pre-installed DEC
Unix 4.0D.
One of them gave me a problem that I can't seem to figure out. Any help
would be
greatly appreciated.
It seems that ping and traceroute do not want to see outside of my network.
If I ping to an address outside my network, I get no responses. Ping'ing
inside
the network works fine. However, pinging from an outside host into my machine
works great. And (here's the kicker) all other, higher level processes
seem to work ok.
IOW, telnet, www, ftp, all work fine. It's just ping and traceroute that
seem to have problems.
I set up the network stuff using the Digital GUI interfaces for network
config. Then checked
all the files (that I know about) against the same files on the other
(identical) machine which I
set up in a similar fashioin (which works just fine, BTW) and can find no
inconsistancies.
It looks as though my pings are just not getting passed the router, for
some reason. But they do
for every other machine on the network.
I'm truly stumped. Please help.
