Hello everyone. Until recently, I've been the only user of my DEC
Alphastation 250 4/266 running DU 4.0B. When I gained 3 additional users,
I quickly found out a limitation I didn't know I had - I can only have 2
simultaneous users logged on at once, plus root. If more people try to log
on, I get the message "Too many users logged on already. Try again later."
The console window in the lower right says "Maximum number of users
allowed by OSF-USR license PAK are already logged in." I'm seeking advice
on how to solve this problem.
I thought I could solve this problem by getting a new OSF-USR license PAK
from my system administrator at UC-Berkeley. Unfortunately, the sysadm for
my college has left and has not yet been replaced, so there isn't really
someone there who can help me (no offence meant, Gary, if you're reading
this!). The departed-sysadm's boss gave a OSF-USR license PAK - but it was
identical to my old one.
I tried poking around with the License Manager tool in my root account. I
noticed I have 3 files - 1 called "OSF-BASE" and 2 called "OSF-USR." One
OSF-USR is called OSF-BASE-IMPLICIT-USR with 200 units, an activity table
code of CONSTANT=100, and no key termination date. The other one's name is
'CAMPUSWIDE-1877", 0 units, a key termination date of 30-OCT-1998, and an
activity table code of CONSTANT=100.
Is it one of these files that I need to get a replacement for? Perhaps the
CAMPUSWIDE-1877 OSF-USR PAK, since when this expires, only root can then
log in? The departed-sysadm's boss asked to check with this list for
advice, since he might get other requests like this soon. If I can help
inform him better, we might get this resolved soon! I would go straight to
DEC on this, but we're supposed to get our software support through the
campus.
