NSR did it again

It looks as if Polycenter's Networker Save and Restore is going to cost us
again to upgrade. I just got a memo today regarding the year 2000 compliant
version of NSR which is 5.2, and it states that it is using some new type of
license manager which is going to cost us in the form of another license if
we want to use this version.

The way that I see it is that if we purchase the Associated Products CDs, we
should be able to install and use any product that is on these CDs without
having to purchase a license for them. We're already paying our yearly fee
for the Associated Products which I see as the equivalent of Digital's
yearly cost of upgrades to DEC UNIX. Evidently, Polycenter doesn't see it
that way. I can understand having to purchase a license for added
functionality of the products on those CDs, but the way I see it here is
that we have to purchase the media that the software is on and then purchase
the right to use it (these licenses usually aren't cheap either). What's
worse is that it seems that we get to purchase a new license for each
upgrade we want to do (the jukebox license for sequential access loaders for
versions after 3.2A is a recent example) or we not only do not get new
functionality, we lose existing functionality.

This just doesn't seem right. I'll be happy to hear anyone's comments on
this.
