Thanks to Dr. Tom Blinn, the only received answer was his, and as expected
it was immediate, clear and exhaustive. It is below.

----------------------------------------------------

Correct me if I am mistaken, but is not the "Alpha XL" the system that was
sold ONLY as a Windows NT PC? If it's the box I think it is (and I do have
a pretty good memory), it has NO SRM CONSOLE. The SRM CONSOLE is a
mandatory
prerequisite for installing Digital UNIX. Further, no one ever created an
SRM
console for that box, and no one ever wrote Digital UNIX platform support
code
for the components on the mother board.

In other words, it's not supported, you can't even get it to boot the CD
that
has the kit, and even if you could get it to boot, it wouldn't install, and
even if you could get it to install, you could never purchase a valid
license
for the Digital UNIX software.

Sorry, but you are out of luck.

Tom
