Hi, managers.
As kevin Partin says, Compaq/Digital supports FibreChannel for NT and
not for Digital Unix.
However, Tony J McGovern told me that "Custom Systems" of
Compaq/Digital in Annecy, France has made a solution with an adaptor
from Genroco (
http://www.genroco.com). This is actually the latest news
from Genroco (
http://www.genroco.com/news/prcompaq.html) This is only
two months old so I understand why it is not so well known.
It seems that not even Compaq/Digital is quite aware of this as I
received an angry letter from Shane Feeney who had been told that he
could not get anything until spring ´99
Our reference source, dr. Tom Blinn told me that officially,
FibreChannel will be general available by April or so and there should
be an announcement later this month with lots of details.
My company develops management systems for train traffic. The processes
run in parallel on many hosts for availability reasons which means that
the requirements for speed and reliability in communication between the
servers in particular and between servers and storage are quite heavy.
It seems to me as if FibreChannel is faster, more standardized and
offers a wider application use than the MemoryChannel used by
Compaq/Digital. This may however be due to my own lack of knowledge.
Yours,
