nameserver

Hi, managers:

I have a stand alone alpha 600au running 4.0d. I have managed to connect it
to the host computer through modem and ppp connections.
The task is almost complete, except the following problem. Wonder
what have I missed.

I have created the /etc/resolv.conf and put the nameserver there.
I can nslookup to get the ip address of any hostname (be it internal
system or out on the internet). Pinging the ip address always work,
but pinging the hostname will fail for "unknown host".
Similarly, running netscape, I can go anywhere only if I specify the
ip address http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.

Is there some configuration file/daemon I failed to install on my
system? Thanks in advance for your help.
