Nine responses in about an hour !
Three responses before I actually posted the question ! ;-)

Many thanks to :

John Speno, Michael Matthews, Dr. Tom Blinn,
Knut Hellebų, Tom Ackenhusen, Ian Eaton,
Bob Adams, Joel Gallun, and Tom Webster

Most of the responses were absolutely right on target.
After I ran the Baseline option of 'dupatch', it became
evident that /usr/sbin/mount was of unknown procedence.
And then a light came from above and a booming voice
said : "Didn't you install the Tracer Jukebox demo software
last week on this very machine ?" "Yes", said I, while
banging my head against a nearby ESA10000 cabinet.
Well, just removing that demo kit (expired, by the way)
did the trick, the original 'mount' image was automagically
restored (I guess...), and dupatch ran without problems.

Thanks again !
