Thanks to the many folks who replied.  I had several "Use gnu make"
responses but the majority of answers noted that Digital UNIX comes with
pthreads.  *sigh*  Now it's back to ACAP and trying to figure out why
their 'configure' command won't see pthreads.  Thanks all.
