The overwhelming response is, that for 56k for work properly
then a digital line is needed. OK, that makes sense.

I wanted to hook two alphas together over the phones, not the internet
so buying 2 56k modems was my first choice, When I looked at them (3COM)
they only download at 56k, and upload at 31k, which realistically would
decrease the speed on both ends to 31k?

Since they can receive at 56k, then something must be capable of sending
56k!
Or are these modems just not cost effective to be sold at retail stores?

Thanks
