Hi, are you all still there? (I have read your note from Jul 1, 1997,
so almost two years are gone!).

     -------------------------------------------------------------------
SORRY IF AM CONTACTING YOU THE WRONG WAY. LET ME KNOW THAT IF IT IS
     THE CASE.

     ------------------------------------------------------

I am also having problems with DEC PCI ATM350 nic.
You say it cannot work without tu0 being active. Must it be active
     and connected?
Have I to use ifconfig in any case?

Well, I have deactivated tu0 and lta0 worked (almost): I could ping
to some workstations and routers, but not to others on the same IP
network. I couldn't even ping to another Alpha server on the same
     ethernet switch.

     Could you give help?

     This is my environment:

one DECalpha server2100 running DECunix 4.0b connected to an
IBM ATM switch 8265 (including one 8271 Ethernet switch module)
through a DECpci ATM350 interface card.

     I am using ELAN.
     This the atm.conf file:

     # If any command results in a error being returned atmconfig will stop
     # executing and exit.
     #
     # The commands in this file are run by running
     # atmconfig source
     #
     #
     print Starting ATM Network
     up driver=lta0
     wait state=up driver=lta0
     # wait till address registration is complete
     run /usr/sbin/atmsig up driver=lta0 ilmi state=off wait
     # set the singalling version
     run /usr/sbin/atmsig version driver=lta0 uni=3.0
     #create the elan
     run /usr/sbin/atmelan create driver=lta0 type=ethernet mtu=1516
     name=elan1
     # allow dynamic ESI time to register with switch
     sleep 3
     # For setting flow control (not working by this time - bras)
     #+vfc driver=lta0
     +sonet driver=lta0
     #run ifconfig elan0 172.20.1.3 netmask 255.255.248.0 up
     print ATM network started
     #
After executing "atmconfig source" I run ifconfig.

     ==========================================================

I have resequenced the statements in this file to look like
the one I saw on your note. I also changed ilmi state to ON.
I am waiting the proper time to test.

     Thanks a lot.
