applications on 4.0D installation using lots of CPU

We have recently upgraded an alpha 2100 from Unix 3.2G to UNix 4.0D. We then
recompiled our software under 4.0D.

However when we performed load testing on our software we found that a
process would take 0.0 cpu% when only a couple of other processes were
running and would rise to an average of 5.0 cpu% as the system got busier.
This occured on most of our processes regardless of the fact that the tasks
they were performing hadn't changed.

Does anyone have any idea's?
