7200 rpm vs 10K rpm disks

To the disk experts amongst you:

The new Compaq XP1000 workstations is marketed with 10,000 rpm
Wide-Ultra SCSI disks as standard equipment. However, there is
an option to order the same disks in the 7200 rpm version. Why
would somebody prefer the slower disks to the faster ones? I
would assume that the 10,000 rpm disks offer better performance
in terms of access times, etc. What is their downside? Heat?
Price? MTBF?

Thanks,
Peter
