Hi managers,
sorry for the delayed summary on this subject.
Even though information regarding netRAIN is
not sufficient within the man pages, it's important
to say that carefull reading could be very helpfull.
First of all, one has to completely remove any
network interfaces (ifconfig tu0 down delete abort),
in order for any protocols to be disassosiated with
the corresponding NICs.
Having done so, a RAIN set must be established
by issuing ifconfig nr0 add tu0,tu1. This command
instructs ifconfig to create a virtual interface called
nr0 (max 8?), and associates tu0 and tu1 as members
of this netRAIN set. Only faa, fta, fza, le, tu NICs are
supported at this time.
The first one in the set is the active one, while the other
is in stand by mode in case tu0 should fail. By failing over
to tu1, the MAC address of tu0 does not follow, thus
people using X.25 should be aware of this since
PADs don't like anything but MAC addresses. The IP
however does not change whatever member of the set is up.
After seting-up netrain, one must include the commands
in a file called inet.local in order for the netRAIN to be
inittialized at all. The network configuration tools are not
netRAIN aware.
Another file which might need re-adjustment, is /etc/rc.config
for those who will remove the interfaces by cli. netconfig/netsetup
will do that for you.
Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Blinn, the only respondant to my
posting. The DU R&D Team is listening, collecting threads
like this one, in an endless effort to keep new releases as good
as possible.
Thank you list.
