In August last year the Xdec server on my Alphastation died and refused
to restart. I changed the Xserver file to output as much information as
possible (sent to an errorfile) and the key error message was:
Cannot find loadable library to handle device ZLXp2-EV4.
Could not AddScreen, ID = ZLXp2-EV4
(sizer -gt --> ZLXp2-EV4)
After trying several things that didn't seem to work I deleted the
Xserver software sets and reintalled from CDROM.
I have a Powerstorm 3D30 and I believe ZLXp2-EV4 corresponds to this
device. However in the default driver libraries section of the errofile
I now see the line (this wasn't present before I reinstalled)..
_dec_cirrus lib_dec_cirrus. cirScreenInit_base Cirrus
Which I hope is for the Powerstorm 3D30 (as it has a Cirrus chip).
However I was still getting the same error.
I edited the Xserver.conf to add the following lines at the top
device <
< _dec_vga lib_dec_vga.so vgaScreenInit
< _dec_cirrus lib_dec_cirrus.so cirScreenInit_base ZLXp2-EV4 >
>
>
Now I get a response from the screen, which goes blank momentarily, but
still no X. The errorfile is truncated with the last line being..
_dec_pvp lib_dec_pvp.so pvInitProc ZLXp-L1_at_5
_dec_pvp lib_dec_pvp.so pvInitPrCreating DECnet socket:
Protocol not supported
and a console message-> 402 Memory fault
I don't remember whether this machine was ever configured with
DECnet but I recently added the http service to this machine and in the
process may have deleted/turned off the DECnet socket? I tried to run
Xdec with the '-pn' flag which I think means it should still run if it
can attach at least one socket (but it still died). Can anyone confirm
that the Xserver.conf line is correct and needed. Also if I have
inadvertantly turned off/deleted the DECnet socket how do I get it going
again?
I have looked at the digital website and searched through their faq's.
I tried to look at www.X.org but neither where able to solve my
problem.
Cheers
Justin
