dupatch panic

Hi,

I've got an AlphaStation 500 and have just installed du 4.0D and am trying
to install patch kit 3.

While running dupatch, at the point where it prompts me to enter a text
string describing what I'm doing, I enter a "." to terminate input and the
system panics.

Any words of wisdom?
