As noted below, we have made available a new version of the Digital UNIX
V4.0D/TCR 1.5 Patch Kit 3 aka "BL11" patch kit.

We believe MOST people won't need this updated kit, but in two cases, it
may be needed. I've attached a problem statement/solution below, with the
permission of the author.

If you need the updated kit, it should be available from the usual sources.
If you do NOT need the updated kit, please don't bother to re-load it.

Note that the name of the kit, in the part reflecting the release date, has
been updated from "19981208" to "19990208". Other than the noted changes, the
content of the kit is the same.

---------------------

   PROBLEM STATEMENT:

     BACKGROUND:

The combined DIGITAL UNIX V4.0D and TCR 1.5 Patch kit has been
released again to address two known issues. This new patch
kit is known as DUV40DAS00003-19990208.tar. Unless you require the
fixes it contains, it is NOT necessary to upgrade to this kit.
Other than these two fixes the content of this kit is identical to
     the DUV40DAS00003-19981208.tar kit.

     PROBLEM:

a.) Dupatch Command Line Interface(CLI): New dupatch tools will not
be loaded when dupatch is run from the command line.

b.) Bind naming resolution: In addressing critical bind issues
in V4.0D Patch Kit 3 (BL11), a specific area of bind naming
resolution functionality was altered. As a result, network
applications running on a client such as ping, telnet
and ftp using node names that are resolved by a bind server
will result in resolution errors such as "unknown host" if
the node name provided contains non-standard characters.
Standard characters are defined as A-Z, a-z, 0-9 and hyphen.
Non-standard characters are characters that fall
out of the standard set such as underscores. The nslookup
utility will not exhibit this problem with node names
         containing non-standard characters.

   SOLUTION:

     RECOMMENDATION/WORKAROUND:

If you previously installed the patch kit DUV40DAS00003-19981208.tar
and require either of the above two patches please upgrade to this
     re-released kit.

If you DO NOT require either of the above two patches there is no
need to upgrade to this re-released kit.
