Question:

Are running SSH on your Dunix machine?
If so what version?
Where can you ftp it?
Any pitfalls and compatibility issues with C2 security?
We've had a some password hacking activities coming into our servers and
there has been a clamor for throwing SSH on our machine and I just what to
be careful about just throwing any SSH tool on and would prefer to know
about a funtional version for DUNIX.
FYI, we are running DUnix 4.0D on an AXP-4100 machine.

ssh 1.2.26 compiles pretty much out of the box on Digital UNIX
4.0D; just get the source, unpack it, and do a "./configure;
make" in the source directory, and a "make install" when it's
done (it installs under /usr/local, with some configuration files
placed in /etc; those locations can be overridden by options to
./configure if you want).
ssh 1.2.26 doesn't support all the features of Digital UNIX C2
security but it does work properly with "enhanced" security
enabled; we run enhanced security on all our Digital UNIX
systems.

There is also an ssh version 2.0 release, but we haven't
converted yet. It has rather different licensing and support
terms than ssh 1.2, and while it has backward compatibility
support for 1.2 clients, that just means spawning the 1.2 ssh
daemon in response to a connection from a 1.2 client, so you have
to have both versions installed for full compatibility anyway.
Since the Windows and Mac ssh clients that most people are using
are still derived from ssh 1.2 we haven't bothered to upgrade to
2.0.
