install of SSRT0588U renders the system unusable?

Hello-

Has anyone on this list installed the SSRT0588U security patch that
is suppost to correct the problems in the 'edauth' command, as well
as other programs which use the security libraries?

When we try to install it and then attempt to log in to the system,
we get the message about 'last successful login', but then the
login process disconnects. We've also tried rebooting, but then
we had to crash the system to get back in and replace the old
shared library to make it work again.

Can anyone confirm that the patch works for them and that we're
just doing something stupid?

Thanks.
ray
