Thanks to all those who replied. After taking the tried and trusted method
of removing all the potential problem causing kernel params from
sysconfigtab I narrowed down to the vm subsystem param gh-chunks. This value
also managed to reduced my 8Gb managed memory system down to 2Gb. After
removing this value I was able successfully to have my ubc params correctly
set and also to see the full 8Gb. The moral of this story is beware of
gh-chunks it can have strange effects on your system!

Subject: Kernel params won't change
I have recently changed some kernel params via the sysconfigtab file on an
AS8400 running DU4.0D. Specifically I changed the ubc min and maxpercent
values from the defaults (10 and 50) to new values on 1 and 2. Since
rebooting the system I now have values set to 1 and 100! Can anyone explain
why this may be happening, cause I'm confused.
