cpio question

Hi all,

I need to restore a cpio archive from another flavor of UNIX, unfortunately
things were saved in the "bulk" fashion that includes the root level
directories, I also need the subdirectories re-created as well, so I'm kinda
stuck having to use:

cpio -icdB -I/dev/nrmt0h

as the method of restoration and the d switch is forcing top level
directories to be created ( eventually filling up the / partition ). I did
a list of the cpio archive and can make links for all the directories but
one. the /devel directory already exists and I know it will overwrite files
there. So is there anyway of restoring it somewhere else??? I can't move
or rename the existing directory as it's full of scripts that run against
our production database throughout the day.
