The general 'consensus':
"There is also an HP Web JetAdmin product. It also, unfortunately,
doesn't run
on Digital UNIX, but does run on Windows, Netware, HP-UX, Solaris,
OS/2, and Red Hat Linux.
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/prodhome/hpwebjetad1880.html
>From HP's web site, there is no JetAdmin software for Digital UNIX.
They have software for HP-UX 8 through 11, Solaris, Win 95, 98, NT,
Novell Netware, and OS/2.
You can verify this at
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/jsnav/netprn.html
So you'll need to administer the printer through a different platform.
This is procedure for LPD Installation from HP Site
http://www.hp.com/go/support was the address in our JetDirect boxes.
However, in looking at my Netscape history file, I see:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/indexes1/wjprods.html
"
**********
So if I wish to go to SystemV printing (lpd) I can
download it.
**********
I 'stuck' to Berkeley printing , ignored lprsetup
and I created the 34 (printcap) entries by vi
edit of etc/printcap: As follows # 34
ens_ew004|lp34:\
:lf=/usr/spool/printers/ens004_ew004:\
:sd=/usr/spool/printers/ens004_ew004:\
:lp=_at_ens_ew004/hpjd:\
:if=/usr/lbin/hplaserof:\
:mx#0:of=/usr/lbin/hplaserof:\
:pl#66::pw#80:rw:ct=tcp:xf=/usr/lbin/xf:
I decremented the "second name" ie...
lp1 -to- lp34
(I also created directory names for each in
/usr/spool/printers/ )
The other important steps are
1. Make sure numonic "ct" = tcp
2. edit /etc/services , adding line
hpjd 9100/tcp
'9100' is HP's port # . it is still unknown for the
Tektronics and QMS printers in my list
3.Add the IP (and queue name) to /etc/hosts
That's about it except for testing beyond our lab.
Note: some 'front end' application system will only
read the FIRST printcap name and not any
post-bar | synonym.
My original question (plus some soapboxing) was:
'Where can I find HP's jet admin software for
4.0E'
Thanks again
